So, I realize that there was no part II of quarter 5… I’m not sure where the time went, but it went fast! I cannot believe that it’s November already!

I’m in a new set of classes, and actually just starting week 5 of 11! I’ve started the first of my many portfolio classes. It was a little intimidating, but I’m loving it! I also have advertising on my list and I’m loving every minute of it! Here’s a little preview of the quarter so far:

This was our first assignement for advertising. I had a ton of fun with it, and everyone loved the duck!

Survey:

I’ve only had a set of two images approved into my portfolio as of right now (the bread set) but I’m working to get the next set approved this week. I’ll let you know!

I’ve decided to stay on top of this this quarter. I figure if I post some now, I’ll be able to post more, and not have to trudge through all my photos next quarter to find out which ones I should post. So, here are a few from this quarter so far:

Portraiture. Not my forte, I’ll admit. But I’m actually having more fun in this class than I thought I would! Check it out:

Editorial. I thought I would love this class, and I guess I do. The teacher loves giving out a challenge. It’s hard work, but I think it’ll pay off for me in the end. I’ve been lucky enough to do studio work in this class so far.

Studio. Of course, always a favorite of mine. I haven’t done a whole lot in this class yet, but i’ve got some really cool shoots planned. So far, I’ve done two. The first one, the concept was Rustic/Country. You be the judge on weather or not I hit the mark. The second one was ‘copy a painting.’ I put the original and my photo. I know the teapot doesn’t match exactly, but I think I got pretty close on everything else!

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, so I’ll get right to the point. My fourth quarter is now coming to and end, so here is a quick review of the last two quarters in pictures (just click the thumbnail for a full size picture):

Digital Illustration II:

The time has come where my second quarter of classes is now over. It was by far (well, out of the two, anyway) my most favorite quarter so far. I learned how much I really enjoy doing editorial and studio work. Two of my favorite final projects were done in the studio (Books & Coffee). I’ve added another one from that same class that I liked. It was a macro assignment. The object itself was only about 3/4″ tall. It was a lot of fun to do. The last one was my final project for my illustration class (my photoshop class). It’s three different images composited into one.

My history of photography class has a really cool final. We had a choice of either writing an essay about a photographer, or taking a photo in the style of a photographer. Of course, I chose to take the photo. I had a lot of fun doing this shoot. I spent some time finding the clothes (which ironically enough, didn’t show up much in the final shot). It actually turned out really well, I think. I did it in the style of Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879). She mainly did portraits, but she had hardly ever had anyone actually look at the camera. The first one is an actual Cameron photo. The second one is mine.

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted. I actually haven’t been shooting with my digital for class a whole lot this quarter. I’m starting to get some more with it, so when those are done, I’ll definitely post them. I have two classes that are taking up the bulk of my time these days: Large Format, and Lighting. Luckily, these classes are in the same day and with the same teacher. (I can usually get more done that way.) In both of these classes, we are using a large format camera (a 4×5 – ingeniously named after the size of the film.) Not much is digital, but we’ve scanned in a few things I thought I would post. I have a few others (like a cereal box and some kleenex boxes) that are quite a bit less interesting, however, I might scan them in later to post.

We just got finished with a really cool assignment. The objective was to photograph the reflected light off of glass. The same glass is used in both photos. The first one, there is a white background. The glass was lit in a way that the light reflecting off the sides would make the glass itself look black. The second is done in just the opposite. There is a black background and lit in a way to make the glass look white. Take a look:

I know it’s been a while, so I thought I would put up some remaining photos from last quarter. I’ve already started second quarter, and it’s a lot more work, but it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m doing a few studio classes using large format cameras, which makes for a nice change. Although, our first assignment we spent an entire day photographing cereal boxes and I haven’t been able to eat cereal since! (For most of the class, we’ll be doing product /advertising photography.) It was a long 12-hour day in the studio/darkroom, but it proved to be successful. Hopefully I get that one scanned in soon and posted.

As for last quarter, I decided to do my final project on farm life. The final prints had to be in black and white, so most have been converted.

So, it’s been a while since my last post. I have a few others that I won’t post tonight, but I’ll get to this weekend (I have to go to the school to get them). I’m also going to be shooting a lot in the next few weeks as we are moving towards our final project. It’s themed, and as of right now, I have it narrowed down to two themes. I’ll be shooting a some of each and will post the best. I’ll also post the four finals that I will be turning in. But since that will be a while, I wanted to put a few up now for you. One of the assignments was a water assignment. We had to capture the movement of water. It was actually really fun trying to both freeze the water and capture the movement of water in different pictures. Of course, I’ve also added a few extra of Lucy, as she is my most willing model. Now that classes have started, I will be posting some of the photos I’ve used for assignments. Typically, at least for the first few assignments, I’m supposed to turn them in as shot, however, some of them I have played with an manipulated a bit before posting them. These first few are from a scavenger hunt assignment. Basically,  we were given a word and we had to find a picture to go along with it. For example, one word was ‘reflection.’ My response:

 Reflection

Here are a few others I took from that assignment (please note the title does not always depict the word used for the scavenger hunt):

Hope
Innocence
Comfort

I took a few pictures from our balcony the other night. Some of them turned out really well! Check them out!
